With social media, exposure is easy and infinite. “Editing” is delivering everything that might be interesting to your audience as quickly as possible.

Blogging is about focus and clarity in writing. Each post should have a purpose and be delivered as quickly as possible while current.
Blog readers are some of the best informed people around and their interest (and exposure) is pretty vast. Your point about mistakenly over simplifying that engagement is right on point. Better to give the reader an idea to chew on than to make her sleepy with lite copy.
